You always seem to be forgetting something. Maybe you lost track of your car keys or misplaced your house keys yet again. You may have accidentally missed a dentist appointment. Or maybe you completely forgot to pay one of your bills on time.
Your friends often ask you if you are listening to them when they are speaking to you. You can never seem to show up anywhere on time. And let's be honest, your ability to concentrate has seen better days.
Do these symptoms sound a little too familiar to you?
Some of the most common signs of ADHD include poor focus, fidgeting, difficulty concentrating, and not being able to control your emotions.
Here are 4 signs to watch out for if you think you have ADHD.
1. Overtalking
People with ADHD tend to talk, and they tend to do it a lot. Individuals with ADHD will often utilize talking when they are feeling excited, nervous when the silence is too much to bear, and when they just want to be part of the conversation. Think about how you engage with others. Are you demanding the conversation? Do you often make the conversation about yourself? This is not necessarily a bad thing. You could be trying to fill breaks in the conversation or your emotions may be playing a part.
2. Hyperactive
Are you a little bit all over the place? Do you often feel like you have to always be moving throughout the day? Maybe you find yourself tapping, shaking, or moving your hands or feet during school or work meetings. If you notice yourself not being able to sit still or fidgeting, this could be a good indicator of ADHD.
3. Memory and Concentration Issues
Have you ever thought of a chore you had to do like taking out the trash, but as soon as you get up from the couch and head to the kitchen, you forgot why you got up in the first place? Or maybe you have been in a situation where you have met someone new and even though they just said their name less than a minute ago, you cannot seem to remember it. Memory and concentration issues are big indicators of ADHD. In fact, lack of focus is known as one of the most telltale signs of ADHD.
4. Disorganized
ADHD makes it incredibly difficult for someone to keep track of everything. Organizational skills can be very hard for someone experiencing ADHD. Keeping track of tasks, whether personal or career-focused, can be challenging for an individual with ADHD to organize and prioritize. If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed by your calendar, finances, and other areas in your environment, it is probably a good sign you are a little disorganized.
